Most U.S. adults are currently overweight or obese. The most disturbing thing is that their children are following in the footsteps of their parents. This even led to an increase in the number of positions on the size line, so “plus-size”, “full-figured” and “big-boned” appeared, which in Russian sound a little funny - “plus size”, “completely full” and “ wide bones ”, however, looking around him, sometimes it becomes no laughing matter. Russia today is not much different from the States in this sense.

Currently, clothing stores that specialize in serving overweight people also offer special fitness programs for their customers from the National Association, which monitors the increase in the number of overweight people in the States. However, such an approach is completely disliked by a certain non-profit organization that protects the civil rights of fat people, struggles to end discrimination by size through propaganda, education and psychological support for overweight people.

Specialists interpret the attempts of this non-profit organization, which is trying to create a positive public opinion about fat people and gain wider recognition of overweight people as a good intention, but negatively affecting their health and well-being in society.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, American society has become "fat" due to the fact that it has begun to consume larger portions of its "traditional" food, unhealthy foods, and is becoming less physically active. The literal explosion of obesity, when the number of fat people more than doubled among the adult population, was recorded between 1980 and 2004, currently almost two-thirds of the US adult population are overweight or obese.

The consequences of obesity are awesome. They are associated with an increased risk of developing diabetes mellitus, various heart diseases, hypertension and certain types of cancer, in particular, the colon, breast, uterus, kidneys and esophagus. The risk of getting disability increases by 10-50 percent, as well as the higher the risk of just dying from obesity. The cost of hospital and outpatient treatment in these people is 36 percent higher, and the cost of drugs is 77 percent. These data are provided by the American Association for the Control of Obesity.

The average cost of medical services for all adults in America is about $ 1,500 a year, and recent research shows that average medical costs for an obese person increase by $ 1,400 over the same period. The total insurance costs associated with obesity are 147 billion a year, which is twice as much as ten years ago, according to the same study.

All this does not mean that overweight people should be discriminated against. On the contrary, they should be accepted into society in any size, however, they must necessarily think about their health, not only from the point of view of drugs and medical care, but from the point of view of physical activity and bringing themselves into good physical shape.
